See these photos of him (from the Yahoo site ).
It seems to me that he was not even hiding out, keeping a low profile. The fact that these photos look to have been taken at a conference where he might have been speaking - on his latest speciality: alternative medicine - says to me that he was very much a publicity whore. Probably it was his undoing. I don't think that the public around him was entrusted to keep the secret, rather I think he was simply noticed and noticed by someone willing to get a reward.
Alternative medicine? What a great cover. He must have realized that most people try to avoid purveyors of witchcraft.

The article quotes comedians and writers for late-night chat shows explaining their difficulty coming up with suitable material
But I laughed out loud with this comment indicating a hoped-for cure to their ailment: "We're hoping he picks an idiot as vice president."
Although….there was one oddly troubling comment I found. One comedian, a black comedian (David Alan Grier), who will do a new Comedy Central segment, will in fact be able to tell jokes about Obama and black issues. But the IHT.COM article presents this quote:
‘"I tell jokes on stage about him," Grier said, reciting a few that would not ever get onto a network late-night show (nor into this newspaper).’
‘…nor into this paper’?
It’s a wacky situation. We cannot read what a black comedian says because of PC rules. Must we hear it ourselves then? Or wait for a Black owned news journal to report it??
Or maybe he was simply telling sexually explicit Obama jokes.

Matador gets gored in the groin.
Sorry, but I do hope killing animals for sport is weeded out of the gene pool. I.e., perhaps he won’t reproduce another little matador.
Along these lines, I was touched by the this story of an explorer that had to kill his dog for food to survive. "That didn't go very well," he says with a shrug.

I never go to sports bars. I rarely pay attention to sports, let alone tennis. But here i am at a sports bar in prague, listening to the tennis on this phone / nokia 6300 / from the BBC world service AND blogging
on the very same phone. I love technology. And czech beer. On my second now, which is a lot for me on sunday, or any day lately.

I have been noticing the gloating of the press, the diplomats, the Columbian and French leaders, the army - all to nauseating effect on the BBC World Service radio.
I think its a mistake. They seem to hope that the great win, the dreamy raid by the military, will somehow tell the FARC have no hope for success and they might as well give up now.
What, are they mad?! The FARC are now backed into a corner like a mad dog. It has no hope but to fight, to push the button on mutually assured violence. They have lost, but they won't go down without causing much more casualties. Do not forget they hold many, many more hostages.
Sure, some might hope they will see the light and negotiate an amnesty by the release of the remaining hostages.
But consider these two last points. They have not hesitated to kill in the past and there are some in the higher echelon that would rather not be embarrassed (and for them they cannot receive amnesty). If I were them, I would make an example.
I am not them, please note, I do not like to see violence. But I think the governments involved and especially the media should try at least to put themselves, just for a fantasy moment, into the mind of a guerrilla leader with a cause that has caused him/her to live outside the law for decades for a cause similar to a devout religious observance, to have killed for their cause, and then wonder, what is possible.
